The Royal Train, on the National Day

On December 1, 2015, the Romanian National Day, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu, accompanied by Princess Marie, travelled aboard the Royal Train from Turnu Severin to Bucharest. Called “The Remembrance Train”, the journey was a tribute to King Carol I, 150 years after his arrival in Romania, in the town of Turnu Severin, by the Danube.

“The Remembrance Train” marks the beginning of the celebrations dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Royal House of Romania and of the foundation of the Romanian modern State.

The train stopped in the towns of Filiaşi, Craiova, Slatina, Titu and Bucharest. Thousands of people came to welcome the Royal Family and to see the Royal Train.

The small town of Titu (12,000 inhabitants) has a historical connection to the reign of King Carol I. The King and Queen Elisabeth often came to Titu station to welcome their official guests and travel by train to Bucharest together with their royal guests.

The terminus station of “The Remembrance Train” was Băneasa Royal Station, built in the 1930s by King Carol II.
